Day 12 - June 13, Waterton Lakes, Alberta to Banff, Alberta - 234 Miles, 9.5 mpg

Nice travel day, through rolling hills of prairie east of the Canadian Rockies.  Drove through many small towns, and no big towns.  Finally connected with the Trans-Canada highway, and turned west towards Banff.   What a great town, although crowded.  There are a lot of people here!  They all need to go out to eat, so downtown was very crowded this afternoon.
Most travel days are not exciting, and this was another.  While the scenery was okay, it was not spectacular.  Stopped once for fuel in a very small community, and we were on our way again.

I must say that the Canadian Rockies are very impressive.  Different than Glacier, Yellowstone, and the rest of the US Rockies, which are all impressive in their own way.  This is just different!

The view north, up Bow Valley, with Canada Highway 1 in the lower center.  Bow River in the lower left.  The highway is lined on both sides with wire fence, to protect the wildlife from interacting with vehicles.  There are several natural looking overpasses and underpasses for the wildlife to get from one side to the other.  The fence and over/under passes have reduced wildlife accidents by over 80%.
The view east, Bow Valley and Bow River.  Tunnel Mountain on the left, so named because the Canadian Railroad was going to tunnel through it in the 1890's, but instead chose another route.  So, there is no tunnel in this small mountain.   Our campsite is top center, above the bluffs overlooking the Bow River.
